REEIO
Regional Economy Environment Input Output

The Regional Economy Environment Input Output Model is a powerful decision support tool used to assess the environmental implications of production within a region.
REEIO links economic activity in 42 industrial sectors to environmental component. Using either Cambridge Econometrics highly regarded regional economic forecasts or a user defined scenario, it allows the user to measure and compare the environmental impact of economic development. The model provides annual comprehensive projections to 2020 for a wide range of indicators, including:
GVA, personal incomes, consumer spending and investment |
output and employment for 41 industrial sectors |
employment by occupations |
waste arising by waste streams and industry |
waste entering different management routes |
energy demand by fuel and fuel user (including transport) |
key emissions to air (eg C02) |
water demand by water households and industries |
The model was the main output from the REWARD project and is now maintained by Cambridge Econometrics on behalf of SCPnet.
Details on the design and use of the model is provided on the Cambridge Econometrics Website. Other details are given in the downloads section below.
Why Use REEIO?

The model provides quantified, objective results on a regional level that can substantially enhance the quality of analysis and assessments. There are a number of possible applications:
REEIO provides a firm basis for sustainability appraisal, strategic environmental assessment and benchmarks for the resource productivity of businesses and sectors.
Using the highly detailed data on the environmental impact of different industries, REEIO can be used to inform implementation plans for policies on sustainability or climate change. |
Whilst REAP models the impact of regional consumption, REEIO models the impacts of economic production. The two models are complimentary.
Using the REEIO Model

SCPnet can provide user support or model runs from the REEIO model to partner organisations or third parties at no or minimal cost. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
